MAKES 1 DOG-FACE TOAST

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE BASE
1 slice whole-grain toast or whole-grain bread, round or square
Cream cheese, for spreading
FOR THE FACE AND EARS
1 large round slice of Lyoner-style sausage or bologna — or 1 large slice of mild sliced cheese, such as young Gouda, for the face
2 half slices of Lyoner-style sausage or bologna — or 2 long rounded cheese pieces, laid flat as floppy ears
FOR THE MUZZLE AND CHEEKS
1 processed cheese slice, cut into an oval muzzle — or 2 halved cucumber slices as green cheeks
Cream cheese for the center between the cucumber cheeks, if using the cucumber version
FOR THE DETAILS
2 cucumber slices or small cheese slices, as bases for the eyes
2 FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES, 15 mm or 22 mm
1 black olive, cut into one small piece for the nose and thin strips for the eyebrows
1 small carrot strip, as a color accent
A small dab of cream cheese to hold small details in place
FOR THE HAT
1 small piece of cucumber with peel, cut into a pentagon shape for the top of the hat
1 thin carrot strip for the hat band
1 tiny piece of cheese or carrot, optional, as a hat badge

PREPARATION

  1. Spread cream cheese generously over the whole-grain toast or bread, all the way to the edges.
  2. Place the large slice of Lyoner-style sausage, bologna or mild cheese in the center as the dog face.
  3. Lay the two half slices of Lyoner-style sausage or bologna, or the shaped cheese pieces, flat on the left and right as floppy ears. The top ends can be tucked slightly under the face or the hat.
  4. For the muzzle, either cut the processed cheese into an oval and place it on the lower half of the face, or add two halved cucumber slices as cheeks with a little cream cheese between them. Place a small olive piece at the top center as the nose.
  5. Place one cucumber slice or small cheese slice on each side of the upper face as a base for the eyes. Do not add the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES yet. Thin olive strips can be added above them as eyebrows.
  6. Place a thin carrot strip on the side of the face as a small color accent.
  7. For the hat, cut a small cucumber piece with peel into a pentagon or rounded trapezoid and place it at the top of the head. Add a thin carrot strip along the lower edge as the hat band. The tiny cheese or carrot badge is optional.
  8. FOODMONSTA STEP: Just before serving, press one FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES onto each eye base. Use 15 mm or 22 mm depending on the size of the face and the expression you want. Add the eyes at the very end so the wafer paper does not soften.
