With a few simple ingredients, toast or bread turns into a funny monster face. You can use bologna-style sausage, cheese, cucumber, radishes, tomatoes or carrots and style the hair differently every time. At the end, two FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES give the monster its face. The ideas below show just one possible version — use whatever you already have at home.

MAKES 1 TOAST MONSTER

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE BASE
1 slice of toast, wholegrain toast or bread
A little butter, cream cheese or mild spread, spread thinly
FOR THE FACE
1 round slice of bologna-style sausage, Lyoner sausage or cheese, for the face
½ cucumber, cut into thin slices, for hair or ears
1 curved cucumber strip or thin cucumber peel, for the smile
2 radish slices or small cucumber slices, as eye bases
2 black olives, cut into thin strips, for eyebrows or details
1 yellow cherry tomato or small vegetable piece, as the nose
2 red cherry tomato halves or bell pepper pieces, as cheeks
A few thin carrot strips, for hair or cap details

PREPARATION

  1. Lightly toast the bread if you like. Then spread it thinly with butter, cream cheese or a mild spread so the toppings stay in place.
  2. Place a round slice of bologna-style sausage, Lyoner sausage or cheese in the center as the face. It does not have to be perfectly round — it just needs to create a clear surface for the monster face.
  3. Arrange cucumber slices, radish slices or carrot strips above and around the face. This creates hair, ears or wild curls. The pieces can overlap slightly.
  4. Place one radish slice or small cucumber slice on the upper half of the face as each eye base. Do not add the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES yet. Thin olive strips can be placed above them as eyebrows.
  5. Place a yellow cherry tomato, a small cucumber piece or another small vegetable piece in the center as the nose. Tomato halves or bell pepper pieces can sit beside it as cheeks.
  6. Place a curved cucumber strip or thin cucumber peel below the nose. This becomes the smile. You can also make the smile from bell pepper, carrot or a narrow cheese strip.
  7. Finish the monster however you like: add more cucumber slices for curls, carrot strips for spiky hair, radishes for bright accents or olive strips for cheeky eyebrows.
  8. FOODMONSTA STEP: Finally, press one FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES (35 mm) onto each eye base. Add the eyes only shortly before serving so the wafer paper does not soften.
