A quick egg fried rice becomes a FOODMONSTA plate: rice, egg and spring onions turn into a lion, a monster or a sun. FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES complete the look.
Round cutters, small bowls or damp hands for shaping
PREPARATION
Cook the rice according to the package instructions. After cooking, drain well and spread it flat on a tray or plate so the steam can escape — dry rice is the secret to good wok-fried rice. Set aside.
Heat a large wok over high heat until very hot, then add 2 tbsp oil. Add the chopped onion and fry, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes until the edges turn golden brown.
Add the dry rice to the wok all at once. Fry for about 3 minutes, stirring and tossing, until every grain takes on a little color, then push everything to one side.
Drizzle the final tablespoon of oil into the empty side of the wok and pour in the beaten eggs. Let them set briefly, then stir them into the rice — stir vigorously for fluffy pieces, or wait a little longer for larger chunks.
Spoon the rice into a bowl and top with the sliced spring onions. A splash of soy sauce, a dash of sesame oil or a pinch of white pepper works well with it.
While the rice is still warm, fry one extra egg sunny-side up in a separate pan. For the lion or sun, remove a little egg white before frying so the yolk stays more prominent. For the monster, fry the egg normally; it will later become the large eye or face element.
The base is ready: use round cutters, small bowls or damp hands to shape the warm rice into the body of your chosen figure — then choose one version.

RICE LION
Arrange the fried rice in a wide ring on the plate as the mane. You can use a small bowl to cut out a clean round center. Place a compact fried egg with slightly reduced egg white in the middle. The yolk becomes the nose, and the egg white becomes the pale face or muzzle area. Optionally use FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES as eyes. Add spring onion strips as eyebrows and small ketchup details.
RICE MONSTER
Shape the rice into a tall oval mound. Place one fried egg on top of the rice mound. The yolk acts as a large monster eye or center of attention. For a dark pupil, place a small halved olive ring on the yolk. Optionally place one FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES on the fried egg. Insert spring onion pieces at the top as spiky horns and draw a curved ketchup line across the middle as a friendly mouth.
RICE SUN
Shape the rice into 7 small flat oval mounds and arrange them in a circle on the plate like sun rays. Place a compact fried egg with slightly reduced egg white in the middle so the yolk stays clearly visible as the bright face center. Optionally use FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES as eyes. Add a curved ketchup line as a wide smile.
FOODMONSTA TIP: For the lion and sun, remove a little egg white before frying so the yolk stands out more clearly. Always add FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES only shortly before serving. If they will sit on warm egg, yolk or rice, place two patted-dry spring onion rings underneath first. This protects the wafer eyes a little from moisture so they do not soften as quickly.
