Turtle Alert is a creative fruit idea for making kids smile with just a few ingredients. Kiwi, apple, green grapes and FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES turn into little turtles that can look slightly different depending on the size of the fruit.

MAKES 3–4 LITTLE TURTLES

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE KIWI TURTLES
1 kiwi, peeled and cut into thick round slices
5 green grapes per turtle, for the head and feet, halved if needed
FOR THE APPLE TURTLES
1 small green apple, halved
5 green grapes per turtle, for the head and feet, halved if needed
FOR DECORATION
2 FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES per turtle, 15 mm, depending on the version with or without insertion tabs
Note: For small children, always quarter grapes lengthwise and arrange the turtles smaller or flatter as needed.

PREPARATION

  1. Wash the fruit and pat it very dry. Peel the kiwi and cut it into thick round slices. Halve the apple. Leave the grapes whole or halve them depending on their size, so the head and feet sit well on the plate.
  2. For each turtle, place one kiwi slice or one apple half on a plate with the rounded side facing up. This becomes the shell.
  3. KIWI TURTLE: Place one green grape at one side of the kiwi slice as the head. Arrange four more grapes at the sides as feet. If the grapes roll too much, halve them and place them cut-side down on the plate.
  4. APPLE TURTLE: Place one apple half on the plate with the rounded side facing up as the shell. Add one green grape at the front as the head. Slide four more grapes under the side edges of the apple as feet, or halve them and place them cut-side down.
  5. FOODMONSTA STEP: For the kiwi turtle, use FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES without insertion tabs. Lightly moisten only the back of the eyes and gently press them onto the grape head. For the apple turtle, use FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES with insertion tabs. To do this, cut a very narrow slit into the grape head with a small knife and carefully slide the tab of the WAFER EYE into it. Add the eyes only shortly before serving so the wafer paper does not soften.
  6. Arrange the finished turtles directly on the plate and serve fresh. Apple turtles are best assembled shortly before eating.
