This is Happy Fruit Sun — a cheerful fruit sun creatively assembled from different kinds of fruit for parties or as a sweet snack in between. Depending on the version, honeydew melon, orange, strawberry, kiwi and small fruit details turn into a funny sun face. With FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES, each sun gets its very own expression.

1–2 SERVINGS

INGREDIENTS

FOR THE FRUIT SUN
1 thick round slice of honeydew melon or cantaloupe melon, as the sun face
2 oranges, peeled and cut into even half-slices or quarter-slices, as sun rays
FOR THE FACE
1–2 strawberries, for cheeks and mouth
1 small round piece of orange, mandarin or physalis, as the nose
1 kiwi, cut into small fitting round or oval pieces, as eye bases or extra face details
2 FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES, 22 mm or 35 mm
A little honey, to fix individual fruit pieces in place

PREPARATION

  1. Cut the melon into a thick round slice, or cut a round shape from a larger piece. This becomes the pale sun face.
  2. Arrange the orange slices around it on the plate as sun rays. Depending on the size of the plate and melon, let the pieces overlap slightly.
  3. Place the melon slice in the center on top of the orange slices, creating a round sun face with even rays.
  4. For the eye bases, cut the kiwi into small round or oval pieces so they stay proportional to the face and do not look too large. Fix the kiwi pieces with a little honey and add the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES only shortly before serving.
  5. Build the nose, cheeks and mouth from small fruit pieces. Use a small piece of orange, mandarin or physalis as the nose and strawberry pieces for the cheeks and mouth.
  6. Fix all fruit pieces with tiny dabs of honey and serve immediately. Depending on the size of the melon slice and the expression you want, FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES in 22 mm or 35 mm work best.
Choose a mood:
Happy sun: Curve the strawberry mouth slightly upward and use small strawberry slices as round cheeks.
Sleepy sun: Cut the kiwi so it partly covers the WAFER EYES and creates half-closed eyes.
Big-expression sun: Use 35 mm eyes for a larger melon slice; for smaller faces, 22 mm eyes look more balanced.
