INGREDIENTS

FOR THE TOMATO SAUCE
500 g strained tomatoes
1 small carrot, finely grated
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp tomato paste
1 small pinch of sugar or 1–2 tsp grated apple
1 small pinch of salt, plus more to taste
1 small piece of butter to stir in at the end, optional — makes the sauce rounder and milder
FOR THE PASTA — CHOOSE ONE ANIMAL
Each animal uses a mix of pasta shapes. Choose the shapes for the animal you want to make. Use about 40–60 g dried pasta per kid-sized plate.
Jellyfish: conchiglie or ditalini + spaghetti
Crab: anelli + farfalle + spaghetti
Octopus: macaroni + spaghetti
FOR THE ANIMAL DETAILS
Optional: 2 small mozzarella slices or mini mozzarella halves per animal, as eye bases
2 FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES per animal, 15 mm or 22 mm
Grated Parmesan for serving, optional

PREPARATION

  1. Sauté the onion in olive oil over medium heat until soft. Add the carrot and tomato paste and cook for 1–2 minutes, stirring. Pour in the strained tomatoes, add the sugar or grated apple and simmer gently for 15–20 minutes. Blend until smooth. Stir in the butter at the end, if using.
  2. Cook the chosen pasta shapes separately according to the package instructions — short pasta and spaghetti usually have different cooking times. Reserve a little pasta water. Drain, then mix the short pasta with just enough tomato sauce so it sticks lightly and is easy to shape. Keep the spaghetti a little looser so it can be arranged as legs or tentacles.
  3. Shape the pasta directly on the plates while it is still warm and flexible. Keep a little sauce and pasta water nearby in case the pasta starts to stick or dry out. Serve within 5–8 minutes after plating.
  4. PASTA JELLYFISH — Pile conchiglie or ditalini into a round mound on the upper half of the plate as the jellyfish bell. Fan spaghetti strands downward from the base of the mound as flowing tentacles. Place the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES on the front of the pasta mound. Optionally use small mozzarella slices as eye bases first.
  5. PASTA CRAB — Pile anelli in the center into a round mound as the body. Add 3–4 spaghetti strands on each side as legs and bend them slightly outward. Use two farfalle pieces as claws. Place the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES on top of the body. Optionally use small mozzarella slices as eye bases first.
  6. TOMATO OCTOPUS — Pile macaroni in the center of the plate into a round mound as the head and body. Arrange 8 spaghetti strands radiating outward as tentacles and curl the tips slightly. Place the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES on the front of the macaroni head. Optionally use small mozzarella slices as eye bases first.
  7. For round bodies, press the short pasta mixed with sauce into a small bowl or cup, then turn it out onto the plate. Shape the edges with a spoon while the pasta is still warm.
The amounts are flexible — these are ideas, not three separate dishes to make at once. Shape the animal you choose and serve it immediately while the pasta is still warm.
Important: Add the FOODMONSTAS WAFER EYES only shortly before serving so they do not soften. For very soft pasta, small mozzarella slices can be used as optional eye bases.
